Brow tint aftercare: What to do in the first 48 hours (Merrick, NY)
By Elevate Brows | July 8, 2026
Brow tint appointments are quick, usually 10 to 20 minutes, but your first two days of aftercare are what keep that color looking rich.

The #1 rule after a brow tint is simple: keep your brows dry and oil-free for 24 to 48 hours. That means no direct water on the brow area, no sweaty workouts, and no brow makeup while the tint settles. We do a meticulous application so you leave with defined brows, and then your job is to protect that fresh color, especially in Merrick when coastal sun and July humidity make fading happen faster.
Your 24 to 48-hour brow tint rules (the ones that actually matter)
If you do nothing else, do these three things. They’re the difference between “nice” and “wow, my brows still look good next week.”
48-hour non-negotiables: No water directly on the brows, no sweating, and no brow makeup. Keep your hands off the area too.
Skip water, steam, and sweat
We generally recommend you avoid hot showers that blast your face, steam rooms, and saunas for the first 48 hours. Heat and moisture can open the hair cuticle and push tint out faster. If you need to shower, keep it lukewarm and angle the water away from your brow area. Pat around your brows gently with a towel, don’t rub.
Stay away from pools, hot tubs, and the ocean
Chlorine and saltwater are two of the fastest ways to strip dye. Give your tint at least 48 hours before you swim. If you’re planning a Long Island beach weekend, we’ll often suggest booking your tint a few days earlier so you’re not doing the “I just tinted, can I go in the water?” math on Saturday morning.
Avoid oils and strong actives on the brow area
Oil-based cleansers, facial oils, and heavy balms can fade tint early. So can strong exfoliating ingredients like retinol, AHA, and BHA when they’re used right on or close to the brows. Keep those products on the forehead and brow bone for now.
Days 3 to 7: how your tint settles, softens, and stays even
After 48 hours, the tint usually looks a touch softer and more natural. That’s normal. Brow hairs shed on their own schedule, and your skincare routine and sun exposure can shift how long the color hangs on.
Keep cleansing gentle. Use a mild, non-oil cleanser and wash around the brows without scrubbing the hairs.
Keep workouts smart. If you’re back in the gym, wipe sweat from your forehead quickly and try not to let it sit on the brow area.
Don’t over-exfoliate. Keep retinol and acid toners off the brows, especially if you’re outside a lot in July humidity.
If you also book our Brow Wax & Tint service, follow the same rules. Your skin can be a little more sensitive after waxing, so keeping the area clean, cool, and product-light is the move for that first week.
A simple routine that helps your brow tint last longer
You don’t need a complicated shelf of products. You need consistency and a little restraint around the brow area.
After 48 hours, do this
- Cleanse gently: Choose a non-oil cleanser and keep friction low.
- Brush daily: Use a clean spoolie to sweep hairs into place so the tint looks even as it softens.
- Be sun-aware: Direct sun fades dye. Hats help, and keep sunscreen from sitting in the brow hairs if you can.
Quick Merrick tip: If you’re commuting on the LIRR into or out of Downtown Merrick (Merrick Village), aim for a tint when you can keep the first 48 hours calm. It makes the “no sweat, no water” rules way easier.
If something feels off, talk to us (and when to book your touch-up)
Most of the time, brow tint aftercare is easy and uneventful. But if you notice redness, irritation, swelling, or anything that worries you, let us know. We’d rather answer a quick question than have you guessing at home.
I had such a great experience at Elevate Brows for my teeth whitening! The service was top-notch from start to finish, professional, friendly, and super comfortable. The space was clean and welcoming, and I felt totally at ease the entire time. The results were amazing, my teeth look so much brighter, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

That “totally at ease” feeling is what we want for you too. If your schedule is packed with school drop-offs, weekend beach plans, and everything in between, we’ll help you pick an appointment time that makes the first 48 hours realistic.
Most people schedule brow tint touch-ups every 4 to 6 weeks, depending on hair growth and how much sun, sweat, and swimming is in the mix. If you’re in Bellmore, Freeport, Wantagh, Seaford, or North Merrick, we’re close enough that keeping up with touch-ups doesn’t have to be a whole day event.
